This entry is for a pair of Vorshlag alloy steel, CNC cut upper reinforcement plates for the Rear Shock Mount (RSM) area on BMW E36 and E46 models. This product entry is for one pair of these plates and is enough to reinforce both RSMs. These are made from alloy steel, come in a weldable raw steel finish, and are both thicker and wider than the factory (Z3) reinforcement plates.
These older E36 and E46 BMW models are prone to cracks near the rear upper rear shock mount holes in the chassis, either from long term street miles, or track use with higher cornering loads (and higher damper forces). Bolt these steel reinforcement plates on top of the rear shock tower sheet metal to strengthen this known weak area and prevent these cracks.
Our reinforcement plates can be used with OEM style rubber RSMs or spherical RSMs. Can be bolted or welded in place. To install the plated versions, just place above the shock tower, underneath the RSM top nuts, as shown below - takes mere minutes to install
The raw steel versions are available for use in weld-in reinforcements or repairs. We strongly recommend this version for race cars - these can be welded on top of the OEM shock towers for long term strength and abuse. See our other entry for a zinc plated bolt-in version.
