This listing is for a Vorshlag owned and built dual-purpose track/street 2024 Ford Mustang Darkhorse that we custom ordered and received October 6, 2023. We used this chassis to develop and verify a number of S650 chassis related products for Vorshlag, and this was campaigned in SCCA Time Trial Tuner-2 class in the 2024 season, where it won 6 out of 6 events and secured the class championship in the Texas Region SCCA. We completed testing on this car in August 2024 and placed it for sale that same month.
On this car we tested and developed numerous S650 Mustang parts including: MCS Triple Adjustable RR3 coilovers, multiple sets of wheels, brake cooling, safety gear, tow hooks, various suspension parts, and more. After 10 months of ownership we detailed the Darkhorse and put the car on the market. Please check the listing below for details of what this car comes with, but in short: this is street legal and track ready, has a bone stock drivetrain with intact warranty, with a perfect exterior, interior, and extremely low miles "only driven sundays!". This car was stored inside a garage for it's entire life and has only seen rain once, but it is more than capable of being daily driven, too. |

exterior and interior pics |
This section details the exterior and interior mods and pictures. EXTERIOR - There are no modifications to the exterior. The paint is in excellent shape - this car was only driven on the weekends and stored indoors in between events. This car was ordered with all of the factory options (except the "lux interior"). The Darkhorse includes a factory rev match feature for downshifting on the Tremec 6 speed, a "blued" Titanium shift knob, Push Button engine start, giant digital screens, front splitter, coolers for all fluids, rear Darkhorse wing, and the optional Recaro seats. INTERIOR - The interior is in flawless condition, with a full detail of the interior in August 2024 in preparation for this sale. The Darkhorse comes with a pre-installed and wired full Garmin Catalyst camera, RAM Garmin holder, custom mounting bracket, just minus the Garmin head unit itself. If you have a Catalyst unit, just pop it into place and you are ready for timed, filmed, data logged laps with the AI coach connected via Bluetooth to the amazing audio system. We left the interior very stock in this car's final track form, and the factory Recaro seats are extremely comfortable and supportive, both for street and track driving. We often build a mount for an AiM SOLO data logger and Garmin Catalyst lap timer - which is shown in detail below. We always look for a way to hide our custom bracket mounts, and on the Darkhorse we managed to sneak the bracket in the opening between dash and glove box door. We attach the custom bracket to an existing glove box mounting hole and two hidden threaded mounts in the surface above, inside the opening. To that we added a flat surface to mount a 4-bolt 1" ball RAM mount, leaving room to the left for an AiM Solo. These are magnetic mounted, so a steel plate was added that bolts to the aluminum bracket. We quit using the SOLO after a while and the Driver Cooling System pump switch is mounted there now. On the RAM 1" ball mount we attached a RAM arm and RAM holder made for the Garmin Catalyst lap timer. This holds the Garmin unit better than the normal magnetic mount, and all you need to do is slip your Garmin in and you are good to go. We will include the Garmin camera and wiring with the Darkhorse. The rest of the interior is all stock and works perfectly - the dash, climate control air conditioning blows ice cold air, radio, everything. You could unbolt the custom bracket in minutes and never know it was ever installed. |
suspension, power, brakes, wheels and tires |
This section shows the current suspension, brake and reliability upgrades that have been added to this Darkhorse. SUSPENSION - We altered the suspension in stages to get to the competitive SCCA Time Trial "T2" class winning setup we have now. The MCS Remote Reservoir triple adjustable monotube coilovers are the main suspension upgrade ($8281 worth of springs, dampers, top mounts, and MagRide delete kits), which utilizes our middle GTS spring rates, the MagRide delete kit ($549), and Vorshlag camber plates and spherical rear shock mounts. We also have custom brake line adapters and reservoir mounts added, and about 12 hours of shock installation, setup, corner balance, and a custom alignment on top of that. We tested the suspension modifications on the Motorsport Ranch 1.7 CCW course after every step, and quantified the changes this way. The goal was to maintain ride quality, and even with our "middle" spring rate set using 600/750 #/in rate springs the car is still very livable on the street. The MCS remote reservoir triple adjustable coilovers are world class monotube dampers that have amazing performance, good ride, top notch durability, and include major damping adjustability in both Rebound and Compression - as well as ride height at each corner. A careful selection of dampers, springs, adjustable arms and very little else transformed this car from a softly sprung car that had way too much movement into a Time Trial winning setup that was easy to align and easier to drive. A neutral setup with 3 shock adjustments per corner, ride independent ride height adjustments, and alignment adjustments front and rear can be combined to dial in the handling to suit any need. The MCS shock reservoirs were carefully routed and mounted at both ends. Up front the two reservoirs were mounted away from any engine heat at the inside edges of the front fenders. This makes them easy to adjust both compression knobs (high and low speed), with the rebound knobs at the top of the strut tower. We made prototype brake line adapter brackets with this car which we include now in S650 front strut kits. The rear reservoirs were routed into the trunk via the "truck baffles", so no holes were cut for that access. Then custom reservoir brackets were fabricated and those bolt to the trunk floor using OEM holes. These are also easy to access in the trunk for the two compression knobs. The rebound knob for the rear shocks is on the bottom (inverted shock) and can be reached under the car. The rear reservoir hoses are secured to the chassis carefully with P-clamps, so they cannot chafe against any other moving parts. We utilized several adjustment methods to achieve what we felt was the ideal track alignment, shown above. The alignment specs were achieved via the slotted holes in the MCS Double Adjustable RR2 front struts, the Vorshlag camber plates, and the SPC upper rear arms. This setup was perfected over a season of track competitions and multiple costly alignment sessions. These alignment settings might seem agressive to some, but they have been proven on track to maximize grip grip, handling balance, and tire wear. You can see what this static camber looks like once loaded up in a high speed corner, above left. We manage excellent tire wear and grip levels that exceed our competition - this is what we do at Vorshlag! POWER - This section will show the power this car made on a dyno, and how we did no upgrades to it after that. When we purchased the Darkhorse we had one of the first 6-speed manual cars in the Dallas area, and we took it to True Street Performance and had pulls made with the stock 5.0L engine. It made an impressive 449 whp STD / 440 whp SAE. We tackled a few oil and filter changes (WIX + Motul 5E40), but that's all we ended up doing to the drivetrain. We had planned on adding long tube headers and making a freer flowing exhaust, but the power level this car made in stock form was perfect - and more than we made in our Gen1 Coyote with a radical exhaust, long tube headers, cold air and custom tune. Instead we focused on the suspension and wheel / tire upgrades, which was more than enough to win every single T2 classed SCCA Time Trial event we ran in the 2024 season. The adjustable factory exhaust can get PLENTY loud, if that's what you like. For street driving we can dial that back to very quiet levels, too, all at the press of a button. TRACK UPGRADES - This section covers some modifications that didn't fit elsewhere in this listing and includes brake cooling and pads, some tow hooks and tie downs, and longer wheel studs. Apparently we did just the right things, as the car took 6 for 6 series wins in T2 class for Texas Region SCCA Time Trials in 2024. This S650 Darkhorse handles very neutrally on track and still rides great on the street with the MCS monotube triple adjustable coilovers Let's start off with the addition of Vorshlag S550 / S650 brake cooling deflectors. We have sold 100+ sets of these and have a lot of happy racers, and this car saw an immediate improvement in front brake life in a session after adding these. Next up is the brake pads - we added G-LOC R16 front and R12 rear pads to this car and the stopping power is amazing. Then we added Ford Racing S550/S650 tie down hooks to all 4 corners of the chassis they were design to bolt onto, which helps strap the car down inside a trailer. The front hubs received MSI 4" long "GT4" style wheel studs, which allow the popular 25-35mm front hub spacers needed to use the same offset 19x11" wheel front and back, for easier tire rotation. Lastly we have our rear tow hook, which bolts on with no modifications and allows for a quicker, safer track extraction, should you ever need it. The factory tow hook works in the front for that requirement, too. The next upgrade shown below is an OPTIONAL Coolshirt Pro system driver cooling system, which comes with the Darkhorse for an additional $650. All you need is a cool shirt or cool vest, a little water, and a bag of ice for COOL running in HOT weather. This option includes a large 19 qt ice chest base cooler and pump, a new Coolshirt / Paragon style 12' dual hose kit, and the trunk mounted ice chest bracket with Coolshirt velcro straps for holding the chest in place while you open the top (to change bags). We built the bracket in-house and that mounts in the trunk. We utilized an Engel 19 quart ice chest to make the cooling system. The pump is switched at the custom Garmin Catalyst / AiM Solo mounting bracket that is on the right side of the dash, which is detailed in the interior section above. If you do not need to run the optional cool shirt cooler / tray / hoses in cooler months, you can unbolt that in a matter of minutes - then you can install the factory subwoofer and trunk carpet. Again, having a complete driver cooling system pre-installed for only $650 installed is a bargain. We mounted the custom built bracket in the trunk for the 19 quart cooler and pump assembly, with lines that can run to the driver's suit in the passenger cabin. The switch for the pump is located within easy reach. On hot track days a bag of ice and water can be placed in the cooler, then switched on as needed for driver cooling. If the buyer doesn't opt for this we will gladly remove this and use this system in one of our other shop race cars. WHEELS AND TIRES - Last but not least are the wheels and tires we utilized for this build, and two sets come with the purchase of the Darkhorse. This is where the "rubber hits the road", and nothing is more important than the tires on any track car. We are including two sets of wheels and tires for this Darkhorse - the factory "Handling Package" 19x10.5" front and 19x11" rear with 305mm and 315mm Pirelli Trofeo RS tires plus a set of Forged VS-5RS Apex Wheels in 19x11" with 295/35R19 Yokohama A052 tires. Both sets of wheels have Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors that are cloned off of the original wheel set. These original wheels and tires were part of a $4500 option package that included numerous upgrades (wider wheels / tires, MagRide, etc), but the wide and sticky Trofeo RS tires were a big part of the magic that makes the Darkhorse so fast in stock form when driven in the automotive press fleets. Why cripple the car with the base Darkhorse 19x9.5" wheels and skinny 255mm tires? This set of wheels was used at 4 total track days. We replaced the front Trofeo RS tires after 2 track days, and the original rears have the 4 track tests on them. The marked 180 treadwear rating is probably closer to 100 treadwear, in reality. We could not use these in SCCA Time Trial classing, so we just used them for testing and a handful of street drives. The Trofeo RS tires still have some life left in them, but again - the don't come molded with much tread and are more than half worn (these only come molded with 4/32" new). We put this set inside our shop for storage in January of this year and haven't mounted them again since. The second wheel and tire package included is made up of a $5000 combined purchase of 19x11" Apex VS-5RS forged aluminum wheels and 295/35R19 Yokohama A052 "200 treadwear" tires, shown below. This second set includes Yokohama tires that we ran in SCCA Time Trial - these aren't quite as sticky as the Trofeo RS tires in back-to-back tests. These wheels are also fitted with TPMS sensors and programmed to this car. You can run the same wheels front and back thanks to the 25mm thick Apex front hubcentric spacer and 4 long wheel studs. This setup is considerably lighter - the OEM wheels and tires are 20% heavier than the wider Apex wheels - due to the Apex set's forged aluminum construction. These wheels look AMAZING in the brushed finish with clear coat. We cleaned these wheels after every event and are in perfect condition. The mounted tires have 8 total track days on them and plenty of life left, but they are less than half tread depth. |

This 2024 Darkhorse is now for sale and ready for track fun. We took a $68,500 new car, added a lot of time and high end parts at it, and are selling it for the price shown with very low miles and only proven upgrades. The $8200+ suspension upgrades are dialed in, the $5000 forged wheel and tire setup makes 1.5g lateral and braking, the custom Garmin / AiM mount + camera, and other track upgrades are there. The optional (+$650) driver cooling system is installed and ready to keep you cool. Buy now and track it competitively and comfortably - immediately! The upgrades and engineering we applied to this Darkhorse worked well - making for an undefeated season for Amy Fair in Tuner 2 class The NADA trade-in value is high for this 10 month old car with under 1800 miles, then add the $15,000 worth of parts (plus another $5000 in labor) relating to the suspension, brakes, track upgrades, the two sets of included wheels and tires, and other upgrades we have done. For this extremely low mileage, exceptionally clean and proven track performer, we feel the the price listed is more than fair. We do tend to get our asking price on almost every car we build. Some might balk - by all means, go try to BUY a Darkhorse right now. Dealers are out of allocations and the 2025 models will be an extra $5100 in base price, which might arrive months from now, if you can even find one then. Say you did find an identical 2024 Darkhorse, then asked for use to supply and install these same parts - you'd be given a $20,000 invoice for parts and installation, and that would be without all of the alignments, track testing, and fine tuning. Again, the car has 1765 miles and looks immaculate - inside, out, and under hood. The suspension upgrades offer an amazing lap time drop without ruining the driveability of the original Darkhorse design. If you get this car you can head to the track, turn some damper knobs, and then embarrass 911s, C8s, and other high end exotics. Or drive it around town and turn heads wherever you go. It is still under the factory warranty, too. We have priced this well sorted, very clean, track prepped 2024 Mustang Darkhorse at 78,500. You can reach us at Vorshlag at 972-422-7170, via email at sales@vorshlag.com or through Terry Fair's account on FB messenger. We will keep this ad up until the car is sold. |
