suspension and brakes

This ZHP came to us with a set of worn AST coilovers, with two of four dampers needing repair. We removed the old suspension and replaced it with a brand new Ohlins R & T coilover system in June 2023. This is a popular monotube adjustable damping coilover kit that sells for over $4000. This ZHP also has an aftermarket H&R front swaybar, Whiteline front LCA bushings, and more - see details below.

This ZHP was used as a test car for this modified Ohlins coilover R & T kit. Ohlins stopped supporting the E46 non-M chassis but Vorshlag makes a kit for both the M3 and non-M cars using the BMW Mi30S1 kit. To make this work on the non-M3 cars we have to replace the front springs and utilize our camber plates, and this coilover kit sells for $4009.00. This ZHP was the test bed for our customized non-M verison of this Ohlins kit.

On this car we utilized Hyperco 450 #/in rate 2.5" Id coilover springs, which allows for more camber travel within the stock strut tower than the normal "beehive" front spring has. The crew at Vorshlag expertly installed this extended rear knobs for easier access in the rear trunk. These pass through the factory trunk panels, as does a Dinan aluminum/carbon fiber rear shock tower brace. The engine bay has pictures of a matching Dinan aluminum/carbon fiber strut tower brace.

The brake pads, rotors and wheel bearings are new. We used Centric premium rotors, which have powder coated non-swept areas so they don't rust. We used Timkin and SKF wheel bearings with new Vorshlag wheel studs and lug nuts.

The brake master cylinder has two pressure sensors, and a weird light led to some investigation in late July 2025. Seeing negative readings for both sensors prompted us to buy new sensors and install them. This was an 8 hour job, but once installed and tested, the pressure readings were once again normal and the ABS light was cleared.

The front lower control arm bushings were the originals and very worn. Those were replaced with W53519 Whiteline 2-piece polyurethane bushing units, which came with new aluminum "lollipop" housings.

The rear of the chassis has been reinforced at the 4 subframe mounting points underneath and the two upper trunk points in the trunk with Turn Motor Sports subframe and swaybar reinforcements, plus additional custom repairs by Stett Performance. The rear subframe reinforcement must be done to all BMW E46 chassis - we charge over $2800 to do this work here at Vorshlag.

This BMW ZHP lacks nothing in the suspension or brakes - the entire suspension system has been replaced with the adjustable Ohlins R & T coilover, new bushings, and everything laser aligned. The rear subframe reinforcement has been completed and the tires and brakes are brand new.

engine, transmission, axle, exhaust and cooling systems
This section covers the engine, exhaust and rear axle upgrades completed on ZHP. This includes an ESS Twin Screw supercharger on the 3.0 liter M54 engine with ZHP specific factory camshafts.

The engine was fitted with a custom 4-bolt oil pump drive. The rear axle is a KMS built Limited Slip unit with 3.64:1 rear ratios, a $4500 investment. The engine came to us with MagnaFlow "headers" made for the M54, but those were replaced with OEM exhaust manifolds in June of 2025. There is also a Setrab oil cooler added to the cooling system.

HORSEPOWER AND COOLING UPGRADES
The images below were taken in June 2025.

EXHAUST SYSTEM UPGRADES
The aftermarket "headers" had one bad catalyst brick, so a low mileage set of factory M54 exhaust manifolds with good catalysts were swapped in on June 23, 2025. The old set of MagnaFlow headers are included with the sale, which could be repurposed as a race-only header setup with the bricks removed.

REAR SUBFRAME AND DIFFERENTIAL UPGRADE

The rear axle on this car is an expensive KMS built LSD unit with a 3.64:1 final drive ratio. This upgrades the normal 6-speed manual ZHP from the somewhat sluggish 3.07:1 ratio, and fixes one of the main flaws BMW introduced with the E46 330 chassis - removes the open differential and replaces it with a limited slip unit. The rear cover for the differential housing is the unique ZHP finned aluminum cover as well. This upgrade alone was a $4500 investment

There are several other items we have replaced - the coolant reservoir is new, as is the driveshaft alignment bushing of "guibo". The aftermarket short throw shifter was completely rebuilt with new bushings and clips.

In April and May of 2025 the engine bay and underside of the chassis were detailed and the pictures below show that work

wheels and tires

The wheels on this BMW are Apex flow formed ARC-8 style 18x9" wheels in Hyper Sliver. The wheels are fitted with brand new 255/35R18 Falken RT-660 tires. This is a 200 treadwear tire that performs well on the street or track. The tires were installed in July of 2025.

To allow this 18x9" wheel fit at all four corners we are utilizing a 12mm Vorshlag hubcentric spacer out front with extended studs from Vorshlag at all four corners. The center caps are all original BMW units with the black and white roundel logo.

contact info

In July of 2025 we ran out of systems to upgrade, parts to replace, and have put this car up for sale. We have touched every system on this car and are happy with the results. This BMW is the cumulation of 3 years of restoration work, many thousands of dollars in upgraded parts, but it was always purchased with the intent to sell. We have driven this car about 150 miles and it runs great, the suspension is superb, the wheels look amazing, the tires are brand new, the brakes are incredible, and the interior is exceptionally clean and upgraded over stock with the micro-suede covering everything above the bottom of the windows.

This ZHP is also a 21 year old car, and while we have done our best to make it perfect, we aren't magicians. Could it throw a minor CEL or something else break a week after you buy it? Maybe. That being the case this car is very clean inside, out, and under hood. The stance is great, not too low, the A/C blows cold and everything works, and it is ready for a new home.

Contact us at Vorshlag at 972-422-7170 or email us as sales@vorshlag.com to inquire about this further. We do not negotiate from afar - if you are serious about looking at this car, schedule an appointment here in Princeton, Texas and we can get you a test drive and go form there.
