Vorshlag Porsche 718/982 (Cayman/Boxster) Camber Plates & OEM Perches

Vorshlag is almost never the "First mouse to the cheese", but if we get enough pressure from the racing community to make something for a given chassis, we will. The Porsche market has traditionally been one of those that is tough to crack into, with established brands and "ways of doing things" and a lot of "popular momentum". But we never let that keep us from going into a market.

The 718 Cayman & 982 Boxster have 6 or 7 existing options for front camber plates - and they all look nearly identical, and produce the same results. After our initial search we felt this was a car model that was ripe for something new...

Safeplace Automotive projectPBR 718

When the folks at Safeplace Automotive said they would let us test out a new camber plate design on their 718, we took them up on their offer - and brought their 2018 Cayman into Vorshlag. We immediately did a spot check of the alignment settings, then took the front suspension apart, started making chassis and strut measurements, and looked at an all new camber plate solution.

And not too surprisingly, we found a lot more camber that was being left on the table by the other solutions out there - mostly due to shortcuts to make a cheaper camber plate design. Where the other guys are lucky to get your Porsche -3.0 degrees of camber on the OEM suspension with their top mounts, the Vorshlag design allows for up to -4.0 degrees of front camber with stock springs, stock struts and unaltered ride height.

Camber adjusted max

In May of 2024, we had the prototype part completed for the OEM style spring, and in early August 2024 Safeplace was finally able to do some follow-up track testing at both Eagles Canyon Raceway and Motorsport Ranch Cresson. At ECR with the only change being the camber plates and new alignment the car dropped a full 3 seconds from its previous best lap there! That is a big drop from just adding camber plates - as well as substantial gains in handling balance and reduction of front tire wear.

The open ended spring design of the 718/982 necessitated an all new upper spring perch design from Vorshlag, which we designed and CNC machined in-house. As always, we took careful measurements of the OEM Porsche top mount to create the camber plate + OEM style spring perch option to maintain the exact same "stack up height", to neither raise nor lower front ride height.
We also make this for a coilover spring, as a separate entry. Converting this OEM style design to work with coilover can be done, but it will require changing more than just the perches.

Note: Track side camber adjustment is easy, and our over-sized spherical bearings are designed to withstand the rigors of street and track abuse. The large sealed radial bearing allows the spring perch to rotate instead of relying on the spherical to spin within the bearing holder (which would wear it out quickly - like most competing designs). All of our components are plated for maximum corrosion resistance and long life.

  • Compatible with all OEM diameter factory and aftermarket (lowering) springs for 718/982
  • Works on the 718 Cayman and 982 Boxster
  • Installs with hand tools and an impact gun, no chassis modifications required.
  • Camber is easily adjustable at the track with simple hand tools (1/4" hex wrench sold separately in this car's Suspension section)
  • The spherical bearing used in the Vorshlag camber plate is the largest used in any Porsche camber plate on the market. The result has much better durability and wear characteristics than the undersized bearings used in our competitors' plates.
  • Aluminum alloy main plate and steel alloy bearing holder construction - Tough as a tank!
  • Sealed radial ball bearings isolate steering movement from spherical bearing.
  • All components machined in-house at Vorshlag on our CNC machines
  • All components plated or anodized for maximum corrosion resistance and long life.
  • Can also be converted to use with coilover springs (but it is easier to use the coilover camber plate entry in this car's Suspension section)
  • Vorshlag upper spring perches are included and built to fit the OEM style spring for this model.

Spring Perches: This catalog entry is for the OEM sized front springs and all aftermarket lowering springs. We have another entry in this 718/982 Suspension section for the various coilover spring options.

Strut Style: Please pick the brand and type of strut your car has. As we get more of these out in the wild we will add more strut options.

If the brand of your strut isn't shown in the options, feel free to call us. Anytime a new Vorshlag design hits the track, we need input from the community on various aftermarket struts and their shaft profiles.  With new suspensions being released we need your help to ensure that new camber plates are being configured correctly.  For us that means we need to know the dimensions of the struts your using to build up a database, as we've done in the past with all the other camber plates we offer.  Please look at the photo below, this is an example of exactly what dimensions we are looking for.  If you are still not sure please contact us!

Note: The 718/982 factory struts require the use of custom machined long reach strut top nut (see below left) instead of the factory-provided Nylock top nut. This ensures full thread engagement for safe usage on a short upper stem strut like the OEM use.

These Vorshlag built nuts will be included when that strut style is selected and should be installed with a drop of Blue Loctite on the threads, then installed with an impact wrench using the "pulse" method.
