We began testing a new design for the 5th generation Camaro back in 2012, using a professional racing team's Camaro as our prototype car. After a few changes and tweaks to the design we made another prototype for a 2013 Camaro 1LE in 2016, we locked in the final design. We also added the OEM spring perch options using this tester's car.
Like all of our designs, we made sure that the "stack-up height" of our camber plates + upper perches matched the OEM top mounts and perches, to nor raise or lower a car on the factory springs. We also kept the features of our other world renowned camber plates that make them so popular and reliable: our massive spherical bearing in the camber plate and our sealed double row radial ball bearing assembly in our included upper spring perch. This design allows for a large range of additional negative camber adjustment at the top, of course.
With this design you can easily adjust camber track side, with simple hand tools (1/4" hex key wrench). Camber adjustment is about 2.5° of added negative camber over stock. Our over-sized spherical bearings are designed to withstand the rigors of street and track abuse. All of our components are plated for maximum corrosion resistance and long life. Read more about the engineering behind our camber plates here.
Our design includes a CNC machined upper spring perch, either matched to the coilover sized spring you need (2.25", 60mm, or 2.5" ID) or one which matches the OEM front spring diameter or any "lowering springs" offered for the 5th Gen Camaro. And if you start with the OEM sized perches, the assembly can easily be upgraded for coilover struts/springs if you ever want to upgrade. Call us for the upgraded spring perches if or when you ever upgrade.
This design has been tested rigorously on both a competition road race car (LG Motorsports Camaro) and a street/autox/track car (Scottish Joe’s 1LE), both shown above. That means the design can handle the rigors of competition road racing as well as the brutal day-to-day grind of street driving. The Vorshlag 5th gen Camaro camber plate design uses our massive spherical bearing in the camber plate and our exclusive sealed double row radial bearing in both our OEM style and the three coilover style upper spring perches. These camber plates use NONE of the factory parts from the OEM top mount or spring perch – just set them aside for if/when you ever take the car back to stock. And if you ever switch from an OEM style spring/strut to coilovers, the camber plate assembly can be easily converted with just a spring perch change.
This Camaro camber plate uses twice as many main camber plate parts as our other designs (see below – 4 pieces are machined per set), since the 5th Gen Camaro “Zeta” chassis strut tower has no mounting holes for the factory top mount. Our solution was to have a form fitting lower plate, that fits underneath the strut tower, with a second plate on top, that bolts to the lower plate from above the tower. The bearing holder slides relative to the two to adjust camber.
While this was complicated to design and machine, installation is actually pretty easy. So is camber adjustment, which can be done track side in less than a minute per side – just raise a front corner (tire off the ground), loosen the 4 Allen head bolts, and slide the wheel inboard or outboard to change camber. Tighten, lower, and hit the road. The face of the top plate has alignment reference marks to make it easy to see the difference between your “Street” and “Race” alignments, too.
FEATURES
Spring Perches: This catalog entry is for Camaros using the OEM sized front springs and all aftermarket lowering springs as well as coilover struts and springs from a number of brands. You have to tell us what you have and pick the appropriate option below under "Spring Perch".
Strut Style: We need your help to ensure that your camber plates are being configured correctly to the "stem profile" of the strut shaft. This is usually accomplished by just picking your strut brand and model below. If your strut brand is not listed, we will need to know the dimensions of the struts your using to add to our database. If you don't see your brand listed, please look at the photo below, which shows an example of exactly what dimensions we are looking for. If you are still not sure please contact us!
Vorshlag branded products are built to order and most are tailored to match your specific application. We CNC machine parts in house, use outside vendors for platings/coatings and laser cut parts, and the bearings and hardware comes from various sources. Due to the myriad variety of components required for different applications, it is possible that delays can occur in the fulfillment of your order. Please contact us before placing your order if you have a time constraint.
