This product entry is for a custom built 3.0" diameter aluminum driveshaft that is made to be used with a T56 or T56 Magnum 6-spd transmission behind an LSx V8 in a RHD E36 chassis. This is sold outright here as well as in our Stage 0 E36 RHD LS1 swap kit. The driveshaft includes Spicer U-joints, a T56 specific input yoke, and custom 4 bolt BMW 188mm rear axle flange.
Please note: This driveshaft will not work on some 1995 M3s which can have a 6 bolt rear axle flange. We offer a conversion kit on the website to convert 6 to 4 bolt.
We have tested this manufacturer's driveshafts and the materials/sizes we specify up to 600 whp on street and road race cars. This driveshaft fits with the Vorshlag E36 RHD crossmember's drivetrain mounting position for a 1998-2002 Camaro T56 or the aftermarket Tremec T56 Magnum - not anything else. Not an automatic, not a 5th gen Camaro TR6060, not a GTO or Cadillac remote shifted box, not some random other transmission - just the two 6 speed manual transmissions we have listed as options.
Not all transmissions are supported with our driveshafts for our LS swap kits. Lots of people like to call the various GM 6-speed manual transmissions "T56" and the name "Magnum" is thrown around by transmission rebuilders. The 1998-2002 LS1 powered Camaro/Firebired used a Borg Warner T56 6-speed manual shown below. That is one of two options supported supported with this crossmember. We don't recommend this transmission because they are now very old and you can almost guarantee it needs to be rebuilt. Even when it was new 20+ years ago it was only rated at 400 ft-lbs of torque. The problem is the used T56 core transmission price + rebuild costs can easily exceed the cost of a brand new "Tremec T56 Magnum", which is rated at a much higher torque value.
This is an OEM 1998-2002 Camaro/Firebird LS1 "Borg Warner T56" 6-speed Transmission
Another option is the brand NEW T56 Magnum made by Tremec. This unit has virtually nothing in common with the 1998-2002 Camaro 6-speed and we wish they had given it a completely different name! It is normally used in conjunction with a 1998-2002 Camaro bellhousing (even though it doesn't mate up one of the mounting holes). That is the second of two transmission options supported with this crossmember. We sell this BRAND NEW transmission in two ratio options, as well as the associated bellhousing needed to mate it to a GM LS engine. The Tremec T56 Magnum is rated at 700 ft-lbs of torque.
